Big Boy Bed

With a child like Luke I knew the day would come when he would learn to dive out of the crib and our lives would become super complicated. Luke finally dove out last week right on his head. We would put him in his crib and within seconds he would be right out again and so proud of himself. It's rough trying to get a 17 month old asleep without a crib. After trying a million different things we finally resorted to reversing the lock on his door and just locking him in. Today this is how he fell asleep. After all his screaming he was just too tired to make it into his big boy bed!

The Tornado

Every now and then after school I need to take Luke to my classroom so I can get a little work done. He loves my classroom because he goes nuts dumping containers, emptying desks, playing on the computers, etc. It is always a disaster when he's done. A few times I have just left the mess until the morning and my students help me clean it up for a little treat! The other morning one little boy walked in and said, "Oh no, the tornado was here again." When I asked who the tornado was the students told me that's what they call Luke. It's a pretty good description of him!

Poor Luke

I always feel so bad for poor Luke, it seems like he hits his head on a daily basis. We are always so careful to watch him and avoid accidents, but he is a little monkey.

Three weeks ago he tried climbing out of the shopping cart at Costco and landed on his head. This week Mark was outside with Luke and he saw something in the window well and dove in after it. He munched his sweet face. Yesterday he had climbed up onto his highchair and tipped it over knocking his head on the door and leaving a good cut and goose egg on his head.

The only problem is he doesn't learn. After you wipe away the tears he's right back at it. These pictures aren't great because he's a moving target, but we have to document this crazy phase we're in right now! Poor guy.

Antelope Island

Mark and I both had Friday off work so we decided to get out and do something since our warm days are numbered. Mark didn't go for my ideas of the trout farm or the State Fair so he came up with Antelope Island.

We drove around and looked at the buffalo. Luke called them dogs and Callie thought they were fat horses. After we had seen enough buffalo we had a picnic and then played in the water. Poor Luke couldn't grasp the concept that when he splashed the salt water would get in his eyes. We are going to miss summer. It is great being able to get outside and get some energy out!

LOTOJA

This weekend Mark did the LOTOJA bike race. It was a long but fun day. He rode with his friends Zach, Mason and Justin. I was in the support vehicle with Janelle and Emily. Our morning started out early in Logan and ended much later in Jackson Hole.

I felt like we were running all day. You would be making sandwiches, mixing drinks in water bottles, getting bags of nasty energy snacks ready all while driving to the next feed zone. When you got to the feed zone you were racing to meet the bikers so they didn't have to wait for their food. From what I could tell we did a good job as the support...not too many complaints! The only trouble or malfunction we had was Mason's chin strap breaking. Luckily Jeff was there with duct tape! Pretty lucky day with no flats!

The bikers did an amazing job sticking together and helping each other along. They have been training all summer and you could tell. Mark's finishing time was 11 hr 30 min. 204 miles is a long time to be on a bike. He said it wasn't the hardest race he had done, just the longest.

When the race was over we headed back to the hotel to get cleaned up. It was a stinky car ride! All we wanted to do was sit down and eat. Mark said it will be a long time before he can drink Gatorade or eat a Shot Block again. I can't imagine eating that stuff...I don't even like smelling it! I am so proud of the bikers! They did an amazing job!

The Horses

Luke loves animals and loves it when we drive by horses. We finally decided to go visit Papa and the horses today. Luke freaked out when we saw the horses. He started yelling so much that the horses took off running. Only Luke could spook the horses! Luke and Callie got to sit on Lizzy and give Roxy and Nick some treats! I think the tractor was the big hit for Callie! They didn't want to get off. Luke came undone when Papa tried riding Lizzy...he had to be in on the action! It was a fun afternoon!

Life is Crap

Two weeks ago Mark made a big mistake with his bike. We had just picked it up from getting tuned up and accidentally pulled into the garage with the bike still on the roof. Mark was lucky...it could have been a lot worse and expensive. I always say that Mark has a long fuse, but when it goes look out. This was one of those times. Luke and I have never seen a more upset Mark. I don't think we'll make this mistake again. The other day Mark received this card in the mail. It was so funny to laugh about it after. Thanks Megan!!!
