This weekend Mark did the LOTOJA bike race. It was a long but fun day. He rode with his friends Zach, Mason and Justin. I was in the support vehicle with Janelle and Emily. Our morning started out early in Logan and ended much later in Jackson Hole.
I felt like we were running all day. You would be making sandwiches, mixing drinks in water bottles, getting bags of nasty energy snacks ready all while driving to the next feed zone. When you got to the feed zone you were racing to meet the bikers so they didn't have to wait for their food. From what I could tell we did a good job as the support...not too many complaints! The only trouble or malfunction we had was Mason's chin strap breaking. Luckily Jeff was there with duct tape! Pretty lucky day with no flats!
The bikers did an amazing job sticking together and helping each other along. They have been training all summer and you could tell. Mark's finishing time was 11 hr 30 min. 204 miles is a long time to be on a bike. He said it wasn't the hardest race he had done, just the longest.
When the race was over we headed back to the hotel to get cleaned up. It was a stinky car ride! All we wanted to do was sit down and eat. Mark said it will be a long time before he can drink Gatorade or eat a Shot Block again. I can't imagine eating that stuff...I don't even like smelling it! I am so proud of the bikers! They did an amazing job!
