First Birthday Cake

Today I took Luke's picture eating his first birthday cake. I know he is a few weeks away from his first birthday, but we didn't have much else going on today. I knew that Luke would be great for the birthday cake picture. He loves food and he doesn't mind getting dirty.

When Mark first handed him the cake he instantly started slapping it. He stopped and looked up at Mark to make sure it was okay. Then he dove in and didn't stop. We had a hard time getting him to even look up from the cake. When we were done he was covered in cake and frosting. He then flipped it all over the house as I carried him to the tub. I had to use dish soap to was him off because he was practically covered in lard.

Luke will definitely still have his first year pictures done by a professional, because let's face it, we're not!

Photo Booth

Tonight was my cousin Jenessa's wedding. It was such a fun reception. I loved this new idea of having a photo booth at the reception. It printed out two copies of your pictures. One you were able to keep and the second you put in a scrapbook with a message. Super cute! Whenever I go to weddings I want to do my wedding over...to Mark of course! I loved everything about our wedding, but there are so many new ideas out there!

Luke didn't love the photo booth. It was about an hour past bedtime at this point. Poor guy.

St. Patrick's Day Feast

My mom has always done a traditional Irish meal for us on St. Patrick's day. I always look forward to it since it's the only time of the year we have it. This year we had corned beef, carrots, dilly bread (Luke poked a hole in my bread before the pic) and colcannon. The colcannon is my FAVORITE part of the meal. Colcannon is mashed potatoes with bacon (yummy fat and all) and cabbage. You then pour melted butter over it at the dinner table. So delicious. My mom is fabulous with traditions and holidays. She always makes them fun for us! Thanks Mom, we loved it!

Funny Face

Luke has started to make this funny face. My parents said that I would make the same face when they would feed me anything green...not a fan of veggies. Luke is the opposite, will eat anything and everything. He just makes the face to be silly.

First Haircut

Luke had his first haircut this week! I was a little sad to have it done because it means he is a little boy now. I was also sad because Luke had this strand of hair on the crown of his head that was seriously five inches long. I know this sounds weird, but I loved that little strand of hair because it was probably his first little hair that grew. Crazy...I know. Luke did amazing during his haircut. At first he just played with the steering wheel. Towards the end I popped a sucker in his little mouth and he was a dream!

Nap Time

I am always amazed at what I can accomplish during nap time. When Luke is awake it feels like nothing gets accomplished. During nap time it is a mad dash to get as much done as possible. Mark always says that if he were home with Luke he would also take a nap. How would anything ever get done?!?! Today I made these cute Easter letters. I was cleaning up the mess right as I heard Luke's little voice coming through the monitor.

Conk a Noggin

Oh no, conk a noggin is a phrase we say to Luke daily. Luke thinks he can walk right now and he has zero fear. The poor child is always falling down. Today he fell on my parent’s hardwood floors. My dad picked him up and he was crying so much that he started to hold his breath. I took him from my dad to try and get him to breath. He would not breath. His eyes rolled back and he passed out. It was so scary. I started to gently shake him and say his name. He finally came to and smiled at me. His coloring was totally gone and he was still pretty out of it. This is not the first time he has done this. About a week ago we were putting him to bed and he so did not want to go. He held his breath and passed out. That time was not as bad though. The doctor said some kids are just breath holders. I don’t know how many more times I can take him holding his breath. I have been extremely careful today to not let him conk his noggin. Passing out once a day is enough. Especially since the doctor told us we had to wake him up every four hours for the next three night just to be sure he’s okay. Mark said he can only handle one more child, Luke stresses him out enough. We’ll see about that!

The Best Bottle

These bottles are the BEST ever!!! I decided to just post about them because whenever I use them in public people ask me where I got them. I remember using these with my brothers when they were little. When we started to feed Luke cereal and baby food I got frustrated and searched high and low for these bottles. I finally found them on Amazon. They are called Sassy Baby Food Nursers. You just pour in a jar of baby food and they can drink it like a bottle. The disk in the bottom of the bottle works like a vacuum and sucks the food up for them. You can also stick your finger through the hole in the bottom and push the disc up. They are great when you are out and about or when you first start introducing baby food. A six month old and a spoon just don't go together!
