To say that I was nervous about Luke starting Kindergarten is an understatement. When he started preschool I was a little nervous but the thought of sending him on a bus and to a school with 600 kids who were all bigger than him scared me to death! Luckily with Kindergarten you get to ease into. He went the first day but I drove him and we only stayed for a short meeting and then went home. That entire week was testing so I got to keep him home with me for a few extra days.
The next Monday when it was time for the bus we were both a little nervous. Luke had a million questions that we went over numerous times. For some reason Luke is having a lot of anxiety about being left places and the whole bus thing doesn't help. He was very nervous but it was also so cute to see him get in line and talk to all of his friends and their older cool brothers. I of course dropped him off at the bus stop, waited for him to get on and then followed the bus to school and waited to help him get off.
I continued to do this for the first few days until one day Luke told me he could do it by himself...my heart sank! The thought of him not needing me made me want to cry! I wasn't ready to fully let him go!!! As a teacher I got very bugged by those overprotective parents that wouldn't let their child go on the first day of school and I realized that I was one of them. Luke was doing great and I was the nervous one. I just love this kid so much and I want him to have great experiences in life. Luke is an amazing kid with a great personality so I know he'll do amazing.
It wasn't long before Luke had made friends with all the cool boys on the bus. His new buddies were twice his age and thought he was pretty cool. One day I was volunteering at the school during lunch and I was amazed how many of the fifth and sixth grade boys knew Luke and gave him high fives. I of course burst every time I saw Luke blush and knew he was cool! I know he'll have a great year and make lots of new friends. I am so proud of my Lukers but I just wish I could freeze time...dang you time!!!
